Arthritis Patients Sign Up For An Exercise Fitness Program

Arthritis results to disability of citizens over the age of 65. There is a damage caused to the joints of one?s body.

There are various forms of arthritis. There is the rheumatoid arthritis which is a chronic and inflammatory disorder causing the inability of the immune system to function normally.

The patient can suffer immobility because of the pain from his joints. This creates damages to the heart, lungs, blood vessels and skin.

Then there is the septic arthritis that is caused by bacteria proliferating in the joints of the patient?s body. These bacteria carry through the bloodstream carry infection and spread it by seeping through the skin lesions after successfully penetrating through the joint.

Other kinds of arthritis include psoriatic arthritis and gouty arthritis. Whatever arthritis the person has, these deficiencies to the joint affect his mobility and therefore making each movement harder than usual.

Upon finding out that one has arthritis, moping on the matter won?t do any good. There is an understandable period wherein one can grieve but after doing so, one must pick himself up, dust himself off and start with a whole new lifestyle that will make it easier for him and his loved ones.

These includes taking on exercises that can very much be responsible for providing the person with arthritis an effortless action of functioning normally, just like before.

According to researches conducted at the Wake Forest University, a person with arthritis will function better once he signs up for an arthritis exercise fitness program and inculcate it with his daily activities. He may have arthritis but that does not mean he need not get out of his bead or get dressed.

250 participants were gathered in order to test the exercise fitness program. A closer look on the participants entailed that they were aged 60 and older and could still do the normal day-to-day activities even if they had arthritis. It is common knowledge that this disease hits 80 percent of the population over the age of 70.

The participants were grouped into three. The first group was in the walking program that required them to walk for an hour every day, three times a week. The second group was assigned to go through weight training thrice a week whereas the third group did not do anything.

Studies showed that after the study period (18 months) 53 percent of those who did not exercise lost their normal abilities such as merely getting out of bed, taking a shower and dressing. As for the group that exercised, 37 percent became dependent whereas the 63 percent was still able to do tasks by themselves.

This study that has been conducted in 2001 still proves true that in order for a person who has arthritis to not completely lose control of his mobility, he must stay fit by signing up for exercise fitness programs. A number of hospitals encourage arthritis patients to check out their exercise fitness programs so that the deterioration eventually derived from their ailment won?t be as grave. This can be a strong motivation for most people. Simple walking every morning is enough to be considered an exercise. This simple task, once done everyday will benefit the arthritis patient in more ways than he expects.
