Zumba is basically another type of aerobic training and exercise.(oxygen requiring or steady state exercise, because everything requires oxygen). Zumba can be more motivational then say, running or treadmills or stationary bike because different variety of moves and music are involved. Music itself is a great motivational tool.
Zumba is a combination of Latin and world dance music creating an effective fitness exercise. The routines feature aerobic type fast pace training and create an exercise that can burn fat, gain cardio strength and get you into shape.
There is said to be more than 30,000 certified instructors out there in 35 countries. I don't know who certifies them and never heard of that, but...
However if you can dance, you can do zumba. If you are creative type even better. Zumba does require some abilty to do dance moves.
You will read statments about Zumba that it is "effective body sculpting". Well any exercise can change your body form, but using the word sculpting is a bit much. The only way you ever sculpture your body is with resistance or lifting weights training exercise. To sculpture will require some degree of muscle growth. Dance moves and running and cardio exercise just won't do that. They work the heart muscle mainly. The other body muscles are put in motion can burn fat or your last meal. But to sculture the body..no. Won't happen by just Zumba or dance moves. Weight loss yes! Sculpture no.
Anyone you see doing Zumba with defined muscles spent some time lifting weights and maybe even before doing the video. High reps can produce a tight looking muscle for a while. Dehydration just before doing the video will give appearance of ripped muscles. Bodybuilders dehydrate themselves to some degree starting 72 hours before show time. Some faint because of doing that.
Zumba seems to be an optimal fitness choice and vary good for motivation and fun.
I have read that "A typical Zumba session lasts about an hour". If you can last that long "great", but lets face it, an hour long session is more of a deterant then excitment. 20 mintutes of zumba, straight dance or aerobic moves is all you need, let alone a whole hour. If you are fit enough to last an hour then you don't need Zumba! Lets be realistic. 15 to 20 mintutes each day or second day is good enough and will do the fat reduction thing.
Zumba dance styles, might be... cumbia, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, mambo, rumba, flamenco, and calypso and Salsaton.
The Latin type music is fast and slow allowing for a great cardio workout.
